Learning with the UBCO Indigenous Studies department and the Archives of the Anglican Diocese of Kootenay
Following on from the introductory event a year ago on the research from the archives of the Diocese of Kootenay illuminating the historical (dis)connections that have existed between the Anglican Diocese of Kootenay and the Residential School system, this event takes the next step in learning and knowledge sharing, with two talks exploring what has been learned from this research and connecting those dots to the wider history of the residential schools, as follows:
Dr. Alanaise Ferguson: “How your archive became active reconciliation and what we learned.”
and
Dr. Evan Habkirk: “From the national to the local: What we were told about the national residential school project.”
This event is part of our ongoing concern to embrace the TRC’s Calls to Action, and is a unique opportunity for the work of the university and the church to come together.
