Holy Week & Easter at St. Michael’s

Worship Services from Palm/Passion Sunday to Easter Sunday 2024

March 24: Palm-Passion Sunday

8:00 and 10:00am Holy Eucharist. The 10:00am service will begin outside at the steps to the Cathedral.

March 25, 26, 27: Holy Eucharist in Holy Week at 5pm.

Simple services with musical accompaniment for reflection in Holy Week.

For the services of the Paschal Triduum and the Day of Resurrection (Easter Sunday), Archbishop Linda Nicholls (Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada) along with Archbishop Lynne McNaughton, Bishop of the Diocese of Kootenay and Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of BC and Yukon will be leading worship at the Cathedral and for the Easter Vigil at St Andrew’s, Okanagan Mission (Kelowna).

March 28: Maundy Thursday

7pm Holy Eucharist with the Washing of Feet and the Stripping of the Altar (Please note that following the Maundy Thursday service, a vigil will be kept by various members of the congregation through the night to the morning of Good Friday.)

March 29: Good Friday Meditation on the Cross

12:00 Noon (Please note: Prior to the service at noon, all are welcome to join in a Prayer Walk for Gaza which will gather at 11am in the parking lot at Central Okanagan United Church at Richter and Bernard. The prayer walk will begin there and then proceed in silence to the Vanebo Garden at St Michael and All Angels Cathedral at Richter and Sutherland, where will conclude. (For those who would like to attend Good Friday services before or after — there is a 10am Good Friday service at Central Okanagan United Church; and a Noon service at St Michael and All Angels Cathedral.)

March 30, 8pm at St Andrew’s Anglican Church: Easter Vigil

The Paschal Triduum concludes with an Easter Vigil including the rite of Holy Baptism starting at 7pm at St Andrew’s, Okanagan Mission in Kelowna. All are welcome!

March 31: The Day of Resurrection (Easter Sunday)

6:00AM: The Sunrise Service of Holy Communion on Easter Day begins at 6am in the Cathedral Garden along Richter St with the New Fire and the lighting of the new Paschal Candle. This is a said service, at which Dean David Tiessen will preside. Breakfast will be offered in the Tinker Room following the service.

8:00AM: A said service of Holy Communion from the Book of Alternative Services (BAS 230) using the language of the Book of Common Prayer.

10:00AM: A choral service of Holy Communion from the Book of Alternative Services (BAS 185). During this service there will be opportunity for children 10 and under to gather for a mini ‘church school’, and following the service to join in an Easter Egg hunt on the Cathedral grounds.
